Amazon Prime has a wealth of fun TV shows for your child to watch. But what if you don’t want your little ones accidentally watching videos that aren’t suitable for them? Don’t worry! Amazon Prime features an amazing suite of parental controls and lots of age-appropriate content for your child to watch.

You’ll want to purchase the Amazon Kids+ subscription plan. This is a content plan specially tailored for children. Ideally, you can pair this with the Amazon Fire Kids Tablet, possibly the best option for a dedicated tablet for your children to watch content on.

Also gain access to child activity and manage settings that include adding content from your personal library, setting daily time limits, modifying web browser behaviour, pausing the device, and more.

Time Limits

Limiting your child’s screen time can be challenging without the proper tools. Amazon Kids lets parents set daily limits, or restrict certain categories – like apps and video – while leaving unlimited time for reading.

Age Filters

Amazon Kids Age Filters ensure that your child sees age-appropriate content within Amazon Kids+. Parents can also adjust ‘Age Filter’ settings to tailor the experience for each child.

Learn First

With ‘Learn First’, parents can block access to games and cartoons until after educational goals are met. For devices with the Bedtime feature enabled, parents can control when Amazon Kids shuts down for the day.

Individual Profiles

Parents can create up to four individual child profiles and give each child selected access to videos, books, Audible content, and apps from their personal library. It’s like giving each kid their very own personalised tablet.

No Surprises

In Amazon Kids+, kids don’t have access to social media and can’t make in-app purchases without parental approvals.

So, how do we go about setting up your Kids+ account on your Amazon Fire Kids tablet?

How do I set it up?

Turn on the device. Press and hold the power button at the top of the device for two seconds, or until the screen turns on.

Select your device language, and then tap Continue.

Connect to a Wi-Fi network, if possible. If you're not able to connect to a Wi-Fi network, tap ‘Complete Setup Later’. However, you will not be able to set up your child's profile or add content to their profile until you are connected to Wi-Fi.

Register your ‘Fire HD Kids Edition’ tablet to your Amazon account. If you don't have an Amazon account, you can create one now.

Note: The Amazon account you use to set up the Kids Edition tablet is used to set daily time limits or purchase additional books, videos, and apps to add to your child’s library. You should use the Amazon account that you use to purchase physical or digital products on Amazon. You do not need to create an Amazon account for your child.

Select your time zone. The time zone is how you set the time and date for your Fire tablet.

Select either ‘Setup your child's account’ to create a profile now, or ‘Setup later’ to create a profile at a later time.

Add a child profile. Select an image for your child's profile, and then enter your child's name, gender, and birthday. Then tap ‘Continue’.

Share content with your child. If you have purchased digital content, tap the check box next to each title you want to add to your child's profile, and then tap ‘Continue’.

Tip: Tap ‘For Kids’ to view recommended family-friendly titles in your library, or tap a content library (for example, Books) to view and select individual titles on your own.

Set a lock screen password or PIN. To prevent your child from accessing device settings, web browsing, social media, in-app purchases, and more, you must set up a lock screen password for your profile.

Launch ‘Fire for Kids’. After your child's profile has been created and has content added to it, you can launch your child's profile and they can start using it to make progress towards their educational goals. Alternatively, tap ‘Set Daily Goals & Time Limits’ to choose different educational goals or time limits for when or for how long your child can use their Fire HD Kids Edition tablet.

Tip: If more than one child will share the Kids Edition Tablet, you can create a lock screen PIN for each of their profiles so that each child only accesses content that is appropriate for them

Weekdays / Weekends - Choose different educational goals and time limits for the weekend or weekday.

Bedtime - Tap ‘Turn off By’ to set the time when Amazon Kids is turned off. Tap ‘Stay off Until’ to set the time when Amazon Kids can be used again.

Educational Goals - Set time-bound goals for viewing educational content. If you want to filter out noneducational content until your child's goals are met, tap the ‘Learn First’ checkbox.

Total Screen Time - Limit the total time your child can spend on Amazon Kids.

Time by Activity - Add time limits for specific activities like reading books. For unlimited time, slide the bar all the way to the right.

To block access to a content type, slide the bar all the way to the left.

Learn First: With the ‘Learn First’ feature, you can block access to games and cartoons until after educational goals are met. For devices with the ‘Bedtime’ feature enabled, you can control when Amazon Kids shuts down for the day.

Age Filters: The age filters recommended for your child based on their date of birth determine the titles shown in Amazon Kids+.
