The day your baby’s first teeth started to appear was a total surprise - a beautiful, unexpected surprise. You were watching your daughter giggle with excitement as your partner pulled funny faces, and all of a sudden you noticed a little white glimmer appear near the bottom of her gums.

That’s right, your daughter’s first little tooth buds had started to emerge. And it got you wondering - When will the rest appear?

The emergence and loss of a baby’s teeth can feel unexpected for many parents - it often takes them quite by surprise! So, if you’ve been wondering in what order your baby’s teeth are likely to come in and fall out, let’s run through a general timeline of what you can expect to see:

Note: Please keep in mind that this timeline is a general one, and that it may well differ from child to child. For example, it’s perfectly normal for a baby’s first tooth to show up at three months, or even after their first birthday!

In what order will my baby’s teeth appear and fall out?

Lower central incisors

Your child’s bottom middle teeth will typically emerge first, during the age of 5 - 7 months. If you want a more precise idea as to when this might happen for your child, remember that tooth development is hereditary. If you got your teeth early, then your child might too!

Upper central incisors

Next come the upper middle teeth, which typically appear during the 6 - 12 month mark. These teeth will probably emerge in pairs.

Upper lateral incisors

During the 9 - 13th-month mark, you will likely see your baby’s upper teeth to the right and left of the centre appear. Once they have emerged, your baby will have a row of four teeth across the top of their mouth.

Lower lateral incisors

During the 10 - 16 month mark, your baby will get their lower teeth to the right and left of the centre. Adding these teeth into the mix will allow your baby to flash a cute little toothy smile!

Upper first molars

Between the 12 - 19 month mark, your baby’s first molars will appear. These are the bigger teeth that can be found towards the back of the mouth.

Lower first molars

At around the same time that the upper molars will appear, you should also see the lower first molars emerge at the bottom of the mouth.

Upper canine

Between 16 - 23 months, you should see the upper canines fill the gap between the incisors and first molars.

Lower canine

At roughly the same time, you should see your baby’s lower canines make an appearance. At this stage, your child’s smile will make quite the statement, as a baby’s teeth are whiter than permanent teeth.

Lower second molar

Between 20 and 33 months, your baby’s rear molars should appear. They will typically surface on the bottom part of their mouth first.

Upper second molar

Your baby’s final teeth, their rear molars on the top, will typically emerge between 25 and 33 months.
