How does my baby grow at 15 weeks?

Your baby is around 10.1cm long, or about the size of an apple. From this week on, your baby will be able to hear you! More accurately, they’ll hear your muffled voice. They can also hear your heart beating and your stomach gurgling. Don’t worry, it won’t be too noisy for them!

They are now using the amniotic fluid that surrounds them to breathe, which helps their respiratory system to grow. Whilst their eyes are still closed, they can react to light that comes from outside your womb.

What are the pregnancy symptoms at 15 weeks?

Around this time, you might experience more vaginal discharge than you expect. It’s usually thin, milky-white and usually does not smell offensive. If it’s smelly, discoloured, or you feel itchy, please contact your doctor as it could potentially be a sign of an infection.

You may feel occasional jabbing pains in the side of your bump and this can be entirely normal. Putting your feet up can help to alleviate this. If these pains become significant in number or increase in severity, please consult your doctor.

What else do I need to know about being 15 weeks pregnant?

Make sure you’re consuming a variety of different nutrients, vitamins and minerals, because each one will have a different effect on your baby. Calcium and Vitamin D are essential for making healthy bones and teeth, iron helps your baby’s body reduce red blood cells, and zinc improves the development of their organs.

To get a suitable number of vitamins and minerals, it’s essential to eat a balanced diet. Choose foods from the five main food groups: fruit and vegetables, starchy food (bread/cereals), dairy products, healthy fats and protein (fish/meat/pulses/eggs).
